Richard and Janet had
stressful jobs in the East Midlands. Janet
found relaxation with horses, kept at livery
and it soon became evident that buying a
field for them would make economic sense.
Having found one, which appeared to be
ideal, they summoned
NewLandOwner
to confirm
that it was indeed appropriate for their
intended use. They were gazumped on that,
but a year or so later NewLandOwner
were called upon to visit a
field that they had already purchased and
started to work on.
We arrived just in time to
help Richard avoid some of the more
expensive mistakes he might have made
and to help him design his paddocks for easy
effective management. We redesigned the
building he was planning and found a
contractor to erect his fencing
effectively. Very soon, Janet had ducks,
hens, sheep, pigs and cattle, as well as the
horses and she was in her element, whilst
Richard continued his job. The field had no
name, so he dug a pond and called it
Duckpool Farm.
A Poly tunnel and raised beds
were added too, but now that Richard's job
has become even more demanding, they may
have to wait a while to be fully utilized.
Their learning curve has been
a steep one, but they now have a network of
local people to call on, as well as
NewLandOwner
and have the beginnings of a
successful business.
Duckpool Show,
generously organized by Richard as a source
of information for other beginners, was
started in his first year! There seems to be
nothing he will not attempt..
